It means 15% of the face value, not of the share price. With a ৳10 face value, a 15% cash dividend is ৳1.50 for every share you own.
What is a stock dividend, or bonus shares?
A stock dividend gives you extra shares instead of cash. A 10% stock dividend means 1 bonus share for every 10 shares you own.
What if my bonus is less than one whole share?
The DSE has no fractional shares, so a fraction of a share is not issued. For example, 2 shares with a 10% bonus is 0.2 of a share, so you receive no bonus shares. The company pays cash for the fraction instead. Check the company’s announcement for how it is calculated.
Can a company pay both cash and bonus shares?
Yes. Many companies announce a cash dividend and a stock dividend together, for example 10% cash and 5% bonus. This calculator handles both.
When do I need to buy to receive a dividend?
Shares you buy before the company’s record date are eligible for the dividend. The record date is in the company’s announcement.
If I sell the day after the record date, do I still get the dividend?
Yes. Eligibility depends on the shares you hold on the record date, so you can sell the day after and still receive the dividend.
Why does the share price change after a dividend?
A dividend is paid out of the company’s value, so the share price is adjusted around the record date. The value of your shares falls by about the amount you receive in cash or bonus shares.
Is tax deducted from my dividend?
Tax is deducted at source from cash dividends before they reach you. This calculator uses 15% and lets you change it. There is no tax on bonus shares.
