New to funds? Start here, then see how to buy and sell through Midway.
Part 1 · Understanding Mutual Funds
A mutual fund pools money from many investors, and a professional fund manager decides where to invest it, across a mix of companies, bonds or other assets, on everyone’s behalf. Instead of picking individual stocks yourself, you own a small piece of the whole pool.
Closed-Ended
A fixed number of units is issued once. After that, the fund is listed and traded on the DSE just like a stock, with a price that moves as buyers and sellers agree.
Buy and sell on the DSE
Open-Ended
There is no fixed number of units. You buy or sell units directly with the fund company (the AMC) at any time, at a price tied to the fund’s actual value.

Part 2 · Investing in Mutual Funds with Midway
Listed (Closed-Ended) Funds
Buy and sell through our mobile app QuickTrade Pro, just like a stock. Your BO Account is all you need.
Open-Ended Funds
These are not traded on the exchange. You buy and sell units with the fund company. You still need a BO Account first, and the steps below show how it works.
Open a BO Account with Midway
This is the first step for every fund. Your units are held in your BO Account.
Contact the fund company
Choose the fund company whose fund you want. Give them your BO Account details and the other information they ask for.
Deposit your investment
Pay the amount into the fund company’s designated bank account.
Units arrive in your BO Account
Once the fund company completes its steps, the units are credited to your BO Account and you can see them in your portfolio.
Ask the fund company for a Transfer Form
This form moves your units out of your BO Account.
Fill it in carefully and send it to Midway
Complete every field correctly, then submit the signed hard copy to Midway.
We email your DP40 Report
The day after we accept your form, we email you a DP40 Report.
Send the DP40 Report to the fund company
Submit it to the fund company as proof that the units have been transferred.
Money reaches your bank account
The fund company transfers the proceeds to the bank account you designated.
A Standard CDBL Fee applies to a mutual fund units transfer. Timing after you submit the DP40 Report depends on the fund company.

Mutual funds are subject to market risk. The value of units can fall as well as rise, past performance does not indicate future results, and no returns are guaranteed. Read the fund’s prospectus before you invest. This page is for education and information only and is not investment advice.
