SME and ATB: Two Smaller Boards of the DSE

Most investors trade on the DSE main board. The SME platform and the Alternative Trading Board (ATB) are separate boards for smaller companies and for securities that are not on it.

Main Board, SME and ATB: What Is the Difference?

Part 1 · The SME Platform

What Is the SME Platform?

The Small Capital Platform (SME Platform) is the DSE’s dedicated market for small and medium companies. It lets growing companies raise money from investors before they are ready for a main board listing. Many are in newer areas such as IT, retail, education and media. As an investor, it is a different kind of opportunity from main board stocks.

Who Can Trade on It?

Only Qualified Investors can trade on the SME Platform. You qualify when your portfolio of listed securities is worth at least the amount below. The DSE registers eligible investors automatically from CDBL data, which is updated every quarter, so there is no form to fill in.

The minimum portfolio is ৳30 lakh.

Counted at market value or cost value, whichever is higher, across listed securities on any board. Foreign investors with an account at a BSEC-registered custodian in Bangladesh also qualify.

Good to Know

  • SME shares can move more and trade less often than main board stocks.
  • You may need to wait for a buyer when you want to sell.
  • If your portfolio later falls below the minimum, you may not be able to buy more SME shares. Check with us before you trade.

Part 2 · The Alternative Trading Board (ATB)

What Is the ATB?

The Alternative Trading Board (ATB) is a DSE board launched on 4 January 2023. It gives securities that are not listed on another board an automated, transparent place to be bought and sold. You trade through your BO Account, in QuickTrade Pro, as you do for other stocks.
