DSE Trading Rules Explained | Part 2 – Trading Basics & Settlement

​In Part 1 of this series, we looked at how the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) works and why the system is fully automated, safe, and regulated. Now in Part 2, let’s dive into the day-to-day trading basics that every investor should know before placing their first order.

​Trading Hours

The official trading hours of the Dhaka Stock Exchange are 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM - Sunday - Thursday.

​How Trades Are Matched (Super Easy with QuickTrade Pro)

When you place a Buy or Sell order using QuickTrade Pro:

1. Your order is sent directly to the DSE’s matching engine.
2. If the price and quantity matches with a buyer or seller on the other side, the trade is executed instantly. For example: If you want to BUY 30 shares of GrameenPhone at 300 Taka per share, it will be executed when someone else places a similar SELL order. Everything is fully automatic.  
3. You immediately receive a notification alert on your mobile phone confirming the trade.

It’s a super easy and user-friendly system. As an investor, you don’t need to think about the mechanics—you only need to focus on choosing the right stock at the right price.

Settlement Cycle (T+2 and T+3) – When Can You Sell Your Shares?

One of the most important things for investors to know is how soon they can sell a stock after buying it.

• For A, B, and N category shares → you can sell them within T+2 (two working days).
• For Z category shares → you can sell them only after T+3 (three working days).

👉 Example: If you buy an A, B or N category stock on Sunday, you can sell it on Tuesday. For a Z-category stock, you’ll need to wait until Wednesday.

The rules are designed to make sure money and shares move smoothly behind the scenes. As an investor, you don’t need to worry about this process—just remember the timing for when you can sell.

​DSE classifies shares into A, B, N, and Z categories, based on performance and compliance. This helps investors understand the risk level of different companies.

Circuit Breakers & Price Limits

Every stock at DSE has upper and lower price limits (known as circuit breakers). These rules cap how much a share’s price can rise or fall in a single session.
